Little Ossipee Flowage, commonly known as "The Flowage", is a narrow, irregular, bog-type pond formed on the Little Ossipee River by a huge concrete dam. Even though "The Flowage" is classifIed as warmwater habitat, an occasional salmon, brown trout, brook trout, or lake trout that has dropped down from one of the coldwater lakes in the drainage is caught. These species are not included in the "Fishes" list because they are not established in the pond itself and are not commonly caught. A fluctuating water level, due to electrical generating plants in the drainage, limits the size of the warmwater fish populations in the Little Ossipee Flowage. Without this fluctuation, there is little doubt that "The Flowage" would provide excellent largemouth bass fishing, because much of the pond is made up of ideal largemouth habitat. There is only a small layer of cool water at the bottom of the Little Ossipee Flowage, and only traces of dissolved oxygen were found in this water. With this in mind, no attempts should be made to establish a coldwater fishery in Little Ossipee Flowage.
