Tappan Lake – is a 2,350-acre public lake belonging to the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District located in Scio Ohio, just 1.5 hours away from Columbus. With its size and moderate shoreline development, residents experience beautiful and un-obstructed panoramic views on this peaceful lake!
Lake / Beach / Marina – The lake is clean and well maintained with a maximum depth of 25 feet. The lake has no size restrictions on boats, and jet skis and houseboats are allowed on top of kayaks, canoes and sailboats. However, the lake does have a 399 HP limit in place. The lake also has a large swimming beach with life guards, pavilions, sand volleyball courts, floating obstacles, inflatable slides and a concession stand. The beach is open most of the year. Tappan Lake also has a full-service marina that provides fishing licenses and equipment, boat fuel, as well as cabin rental information.
Offshore Amenities – Speaking of the marina, one of Tappan’s best offshore amenities is their lakefront restaurant located at the Marina. The restaurant “Boathouse Bar and Grill” has been family owned and operated since 1943 and has great views and a great selection. The lake also has full service camping services with over 500 campsites. The park also has basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts, playgrounds, horseshoe pits and a nature center and activity center that hosts a variety of events for kids of all ages. There are also half a dozen trails to choose from to explore nature including the 3.8-mile Fox trail, the Turkey Ridge Trail that leads to the Beal Farm, the local headquarters for the Buckeye Trail. There is also an additional trail that connects to the Tappan Wetlands, a watchable wildlife area. The park also has hunting opportunities within the vast area of public lands close to the park, as well as waterfowl hunting opportunities on the lake itself.
Nearby Activities – If Tappan Lake itself doesn’t have what you’re looking for on any given day then there are plenty of fun activities located within a short distance. For history buffs there are the Clark Gable Museum, History of Coal Museum, and the Warther Museum all close by and a great opportunity to learn about history. There is also the 250 Speedway located in Cadiz, a premier 3/8-mile dirt racing track. The award-winning play “Trumpet in the Land” is available to see in the nearby town of Schoebrunn, and to top it off several other MWCCD lakes are close by including Piedmont and Clendening, to fish, boat and explore!
