This pond was created in 1778 by a dam that was the foundation of Simpson Mill. Damage to the dam forced the once vibrant ecosystem to be drained. The pond was no longer a source of food, water and rest for the migratory waterfowl and the surrounding wildlife in the woods. Thanks to the research, planning, community support and hardwork and dedication of th construction crew the Marston-Finn conservation dam was completed and in 2020 the dam was approved to again hold water. Moeckel Pond is once again a haven of wildlife.
