 Lake Ola: A Serene Oasis

General Information: Lake Ola, part of the Howell Branch Creek system, spans 426 acres and lies in the heart of Mount Dora. Approximately 75% of its surface area falls within Winter Park, while the remaining portion belongs to the City of Maitland. Lake Osceola serves as the immediate upstream lake in Winter Park, and Lake Maitland also receives surface flow from Lake Minnehaha and Park Lake, both located in Maitland. Howell Branch Creek acts as the outlet for Lake Ola, flowing over a control weir at Howell Branch Road. Like many lakes in the region, Lake Ola’s water level fluctuates based on rainfall, surface flow, and groundwater levels.

Water Quality: Lake Ola’s water quality is influenced by two primary sources: stormwater runoff and inflow from the three upstream lakes. Annual average Secchi disk transparency data from 1997 to 2015 show a positive trend toward improved water clarity. Responsible practices are essential to maintain the lake’s pristine condition.
