Lake Hamilton is a prime vacation destination in central Arkansas. Located on the Ouachita River, Lake Hamilton was created in 1932 as a result of Carpenter Dam. The dam was constructed to generate hydroelectric power. Shortly thereafter the lake became a recreational site and began attracting tourists.

Lake Hamilton has almost 4 miles of surface area and is surrounded by homes, restaurants and resorts. The area development lends itself nicely to all types of watersports. Speed boats, canoes, kayaks, sailboats, and of course fishing boats.

Lake Hamilton's mix of water temperatures aids in the diverse variety of fish. In addition, the Arkansas Fish and Game Commission operates the Lake Hamilton Fish Hatchery, and releases fingerlings into the lake each year. Fishing Tournaments are also a big draw to Lake Hamilton.

Multiple public recreation areas surround Lake Hamilton and provide many opportunities for hiking and picnicking. Garvan Woodland Gardens is accessible by boat and car. The Gardens are home dynamic architectural structures and majestic botanical landscapes. Visitors can also cruise the lake on a riverboat, what a unique way to tour Lake Hamilton!

With crystal clear water and a multitude of local activities, Lake Hamilton will not disappoint!
