Smith and Sayles Reservoir is a large, 173 acre reservoir. The shoreline is largely wooded, but there are some houses. There is a 10hp limit on all motors used on the reservoir. The boat ramp is a cement plank ramp in good condition. At the south end, a low earthen dam separates the Reservoir from Keech Pond, which is 2 feet higher than the reservoir. Smith and Sayles Reservoir is a relatively shallow (maximum depth of just over 10 feet) human impoundment, located in Glocester. The total shoreline perimeter of Smith and Sayles Reservoir is approximately 4.60 miles. Public access is provided by a state maintained boat ramp at the end of Sand Dam Road on the northwestern shore of the reservoir. Private waterfront residences occupy portions of the northwestern and southern shorelines while most of the northeastern and central shoreline areas remain undeveloped. The Sand Dam Reservoir Association owns the land under Smith and Sayles Reservoir and appears to own Sand Dam (Town of Glocester, 2005), which impounds the reservoir. Sand Dam was completed in 1865 and is a gravity dam of masonry and earthen construction, with a height of approximately 15.0 feet (4.6 meters) and a length of approximately 980.0 feet (299 meters).

From Route 44/Route 102, half a mile south of Chepachet, head west on Chestnut Hill Road. This junction is just north of where Route 44 and Route 102 come together. Go 0.8 miles west on Chestnut Hill Road. This will take you along the north edge of Smith and Sayles Reservoir. Turn left onto Sand Dam Road and follow it for 0.4 miles. The boat ramp is on the left, near the end of the road.
