Shippee Sawmill Pond is a small but pretty and serene 8-acre pond in the woods of North Foster. There are a few houses visible from the pond but most of the shoreline is wooded. The pond is part of the RI DEM Ponagansett River Corridor. You cannot paddle far on the pond but it is a fine place to relax and enjoy the scenery, and to fish if you are so inclined. Nearest Town Center: North Foster. Ecological, Cultural & Recreational Attractions: The shore of the pond, especially on the opposite side of the outlet stream from the boat ramp, is also a nice place to sit and relax, and fish if you want to. There is a grassy area next to the pond as well as rocks to sit on in shade.

Ramp Comments: Gravel boat ramp. This is a site for launching boats from trailers. Boat ramps can normally be used to launch canoes and kayaks but please do your best to keep the boat ramp clear for boat trailers. In addition to the boat ramp there is a separate parking lot on the other side of the outlet stream and the shoreline near this parking area is suitable for launching hand-carried boats. Hours of Operation: Closed from 1/2 hr. after sunset to 5 am, except for fishing and boating. No overnight parking.

Directions: From Route 6 in Foster take Route 94 (Mount Hygeia Road) north. Go 1.3 miles and turn left onto East Killingly Road and then take an immediate right onto Willoughby Young Road, which is a dirt road. Go 1/10 mile and turn left onto an unmarked dirt road. This turn is just after the "Weight Limit 3 Tons" sign and before the bridge over the stream. The boat ramp is 1/10 mile ahead, at the end of this road (bear right at the fork in the road).
