Winnekeag is an average size (118-acre) two-story pond location in Ashburnham adjacent to Route 101. The water is clear with a transparency of 7 feet. The average depth is approximately 15 feet with a maximum depth of 34 feet. The shoreline is 75% developed with summer and year round homes, and camps. Aquatic weeds are dense in the northern part of the pond and scant elsewhere. Boat access is limited to car top boats or canoes, which can be launched through an opening in the guardrails along Route 101. Shore access is limited to areas adjacent to Route 101. Lake Winnekeag is the home of Camp Wellville and Camp Winnekeag.  The Lakes Coalition is an organization made up of representatives from the various lakes & ponds in Ashburnham, including Lake Winnekeag. They meet twice a year, and at other times when a need arises. The purpose of the organization is to share experiences and offer support in dealing with problems that are unique to lake residents. They also promote public safety on the waterways. One half of the money that is collected from the boat excise tax is given to the Lakes Coalition to be used for the benefit of area lakes and ponds. Gas motors are allowed on this lake.

Fishing Comments: Winnekeag is stocked annually with 500 trout during the spring season. The 1980 survey indicated that some carryover is likely. Chain pickerel provide most of the warm water fishing here, as they are abundant and of good size.
