Whalom Pond is located three miles east of Fitchburg and three and a half miles north of Leominster. Aquatic vegetation is very scant over a muck and gravel bottom. Access for boat fishing is located at the northeast corner of the lake where a paved ramp has been constructed. Adjacent to the ramp is a parking lot with a 30-car capacity. Shore fishing is popular off the road running parallel with the western shore. Whalom Lake's accessibility and proximity to such large urban centers as Leominster and Fitchburg results in heavy recreational use. Going for a hike on the Wapack Trail is always a pleasant adventure. Head up to Wachusett Mountain and strap some skis to your feet; get soaked paddling on Souhegan River. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this location. On a gorgeous day you obtain a view of Nichols Hill from Lake Whalom, and after a long day outdoors Leominster/Fitchburg Super 8 Motel is a tremendous site to spend a night or two. Stay the night at Pine Campgrounds, and nearby you discover the Mitchell Hill Road which is a glorious hiking trail. You can camp at Camp Tevya, and if you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Maplewood Golf Course is in close proximity.
