This is a nice size lake for the area and has a good supply of affordable homes. It maintains a fairly uniform depth of around 6 feet and is defined as a Kettle Pond (See definitions). The water is transparent to about 5 feet and the bottom is muddy with a sand and gravel mix. Its oval shape is great for power-boating and waterskiing and there is some terrific wildlife in the area (including many turtles). The outlet is the Snake River and the inlets include the Canoe River and Mulberry Meadow Brook. Just minutes from Route 495, it is a great commuter location. The Association continues to be active in lake-weed eradication. Most of the lake now has town sewer which is helping the lake minimize nutrient overload conditions. There's a terrific Italian restaurant on the lake called The Chateau (http://www.chateaurestaurant.com/norton/norton.asp), formally Ann's Place. Try the veal! The Lake Winnecunnet Neighborhood Association is still in existence but does not have a website. There was also a water-ski club at one time that sets up slalom buoys on the lake.
