Hart Pond is a small and quiet pond nestled in the southern corner Chelmsford Massachusetts. It is also home to snapping turtles, blue herons, black squirrels, the occasional swan, and lets not forget the beavers. It is a place were you can find a bit of peace and forget, for a moment, the fast paced complex world you live in. The Hart Pond Improvement Association is a voluntary association of landowners with waterfront property or a deeded right of way to the Pond. The purpose of the association is to maintain a safe and environmentally sound pond that can be enjoyed for all. The association is responsible for amended boating regulations, bouy placement, invasive weed treatment, and much more.

Heart Pond, also known as Hart Pond, Baptist Pond or Baptist lake, is a 93-acre Great Pond located a quarter mile southwest of South Chelmsford Center.  Heart Pond is a large kettle pond, meaning it was formed by retreating glaciers or draining floodwaters.  In the 1800s and early 1900s, the lake was used by the Daniel Gage Ice Company for harvesting ice. Dogs are welcome at Heart Pond! Leashed dogs are allowed to join their owners at the Pond as long as they do not go in the roped off swimming area. Dog owners must clean up after their pet during their visit. Beach Area open from Dawn to Dusk. No Lifeguard on duty. DATES OF OPERATION: Last Week in June to Last Week in August.

Fishing Comments: Heart Pond hosts abundant bass, pickerel and panfish populations. Summer fishing, at least during the day, is virtually impossible due to the popularity of this pond with waterskiers and other speedy recreational users. Ice fishermen bag trophy Chain Pickerel relatively frequently, and also report good catches of perch and bass. While big bass are uncommon, on rare occasions this pond has given up trophies weighing up to nine pounds. Most of these have been taken by late night summer anglers and a few by ice fishermen. Heart Pond has produced Largemouth Bass and Chain Pickerel that meet minimum sizes for recognition by the Freshwater Sportfishing Awards Program.
