Big Alum Pond is located just north of the Mass Pike in Fiskdale, a suburb of Sturbridge. Aquatic vegitation is minimal, except for a few areas in the north end. The shore is heavily developed with both year-round homes and summer cottages. The pond is fully recreational and is popular for summer activities. The Big Alum Lake Association is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization of nearly 175 member families, whose purpose is to oversee the well-being of Big Alum Lake and the surrounding watershed.Access to the lake is primarily via residential routes; however, there is a walking route that goes around the lake that is just over 3 miles long. The public boat ramp is at the end of Clarke Road, at the south tip of the lake.
