Forest Lake is controlled by the town of Methuen and is a relatively infertile natural great pond. Transparency is fair at 7 feet, and aquatic vegetation is scarce except for scattered patches in the coves. The shoreline is fairly well developed with the exception of the north end that is bordered by a town forest and beach. The pond is realtively free of any non-native weed species, and the town hopes to keep it that way. The town of Methuen offers swimming lessons on the pond.
