West Hill Pond is located in the towns of Barkhamsted and New Hartford. It is a natural lake within the Connecticut River Drainage Basin. The water level was raised by the construction of a masonry dam. The watershed is 790 acres of mostly undeveloped woods with some residential development concentrated near the pond. The lake is fed bottom springs and two small brooks. It drains north in Morgan Brook, which flows into the West Branch Farmington River. The shoreline is partially wooded and heavily developed with residences. There are several camps and town beaches present.
The transparency of the lake is very clear with visibility of 20 ft. in the summer. The bottom of the lake consists of sand, gravel and rubble. The fishing should be excellent for stocked trout; good for kokanee; and fair for sunfish and small bass.

A state-owned boat launch is located on the northeastern shore. Facilities at the launch include a concrete plank ramp, parking for 20 cars, and chemical toilets (seasonal). Parking and toilets are located across the street.
From Rte. 8, take Rte. 44 east 1 mile, right on West Hill Rd. for 1.5 miles, right or Perkings Rd. for 0.1 miles, launch is on the right.
