Maps refer to this lake as Wappaquasset Pond. Yet one can live in the town a quarter of a century and never hear it called that once. 88 acre Quasset Lake is a full functional utility lake (water skiing) located 5 minutes west of the Woodstock Fairgrounds. Native American Indians created the lake by raising the level of a marsh pond with a dam made from stones. The Pomfret School has it's crew boat racing training facility there. The aerial photo shows the land and fields to the east owned by Tufts University School-Veterinary.
