Coventry Lake is a natural lake within the Thames River Drainage Basin. The water level was raised several feet by a small masonry dam. The watershed is 1,896 acres of mostly residential land with moderate amounts of undeveloped wood and wetland and some agricultural land. The lake is fed mainly by bottom springs and surface runoff channeled through several small brooks. It drains southeast into Mill Brook, which flows into the Willimantic River. The shoreline is heavily developed with cottages and permanent homes.

The transparency of the lake is fair to clear and visibility is reduced to 10 ft. in late summer by algal blooms. The fishing should be good for large sunfish and fair to good for trout, bass and yellow perch. Anglers should catch good numbers of perch, but few large ones. Holdover brown trout are occasionally taken. The lake is also a popular ice fishing spot.
